Sleep Apnea Appliance

Sleep Apnea appliance is designed to pull your lower jaw forward while you sleep opening your airway. When your airway is closed or blocked, your brain is triggered to wake up to keep you breathing. The cycle of restricted airflow continues throughout the night causing you to feel sleepy throughout the day and may cause damage to your heart and other organs. Devices come in two parts, upper and lower, connected with bands, screws or snaps. Dr. Kokinias will determine the optimal option for you.

Not everyone is a candidate for a sleep appliance. A sleep study should be performed first which should be ordered by your primary physician. If the study indicates you have mild to moderate sleep apnea symptoms and you are unable to tolerate a C-Pap machine, the next step is to have Dr. Kokinias construct the sleep apnea oral appliance. Call our office for further information. It’s also important to note that a sleep appliance doesn’t eliminate snoring which many people experience.
